Hi there! Interested in Robots? Be sure to follow this blog!
The University of Twente is located in the eastern part of the Netherlands. High tech, human touch, that is the University of Twente; some 3,300 scientists and other professionals working together on cutting-edge research, innovations with real-world relevance and inspiring education for more than 9,000 students.
At the Department of Control Engineering (within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science) LEO - center for service robotics, has been founded late 2009. LEO? Yes, LEO; an abbreviation for three Latin words: Labora et Obedira, which basically means 'Work and Obey' (we always like our robots to obey us :). Our goal is simple: to create an ecosystem around service robotics by teaming up with both Industrial and Academic partners. Why? Because the future is coming fast and there 's a lot of fragmented research going on; it's always better to join forces.
Since there is a steady increase in age of the populations in the western world, costs of healthcare are likely to increase very much. Nowadays global consensus exists that robotic technology has the potential to meet this social need. Beside the medical field, our society demands safety and efficiency in monitoring infrastructures and the environment and robotics technology is instrumental in addressing these needs.
Well, so much for the introduction, but what is this Weblog about? Lofty words above, but in the end of the day you need the Brainiacs who actually build the robotic technologies and that's where our MSc and PhD-students come in. Not only do they all have their own serious projects going on, they also spend some 'down-time' (usually on Thursday nights), simply (well, not really but anyway) tinkering along with all kinds of robots. Their latest bright idea? Turning a Segway into a personal robotic beer delivery cart! So this blog keeps you upraised on all those kinds of adventures. We hope you will enjoy :)
